Kathleen James-Chakraborty, University College Dublin

Kathleen James-Chakraborty is Professor of Art History at University College Dublin. She has previously taught at the University of California Berkeley, the University of Minnesota, and the Ruhr University Bochum. She is the author of German Architecture for a Mass Audience (Routledge, 2000) and Erich Mendelsohn and the Architecture of German Modernism (Cambridge, 1997), and the editor of Bauhaus Culture from Weimar to the Cold War (Minnesota, 2006).

She is a member of the board of the Chester Beatty Library and of the Art and Architecture of Ireland, a project sponsored by the Royal Irish Academy. Her current work focuses on the dissemination of modern architecture internationally and on modern sacred architecture. She was the co-organizer of Re-Imagining the Nation: Transformations of German Cultural Identity since 1989, an international interdisciplinary conference held at UCD last year that was the major Irish commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
