For several years a plant drink from Amazonia is causing quite a stir. Backpackers from all over the world are telling stories about hallucinogenic trips and near-death experiences in the South American rain forest. Brazilian churches celebrate it in their mass and the science is interested in the jungle-tea as well. For some it’s a powerful medicine which can cure alle diseases from depression to cancer - for others it’s just a recreational drug: Ayahuasca, the Plant of the Ghosts.
By now the ancient tradition of the indigenous people has reached our western society. More and more plant shamans offer experiences with Ayahuasca in weekend-ceremonies. Two young film ma-kers went on a journey through Germany and Austria to meet the people who carry the secret know-ledge of the Amazonian Ayahuasceros to Europe. In the documentary short film SHAMANUASCA they take the viewer to a trip into the psychedelic world of modern Ayahuasca shamans.
