We begin a new summer series at Kenwood that seeks to empower our witness for Christ. The world around us is changing. Some changes are obvious like technology, educational theory, and the deterioration of language and political discourse. Other changes are not as easy to see like the shift in religious identity. According to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, the fastest growing segment of American society is those who do not indicate any religious identity. The so-called ‘nones’ has grown to 23% in 2015. This means that nearly one out of every four people in our city is not vibrantly connected to Christ. The Pew study also revealed that 46% of this group says that they experience “a deep sense of wonder about the universe.” These statistics represent real lives around us. They have questions, but no answers.
Sincere questions deserve honest answers. Paul’s final charge to Timothy remains true for us all: “be ready in season and out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2). I encourage you to participate in this series on Sunday mornings.
