For almost a century now, Pakistan has been the most important supplier of hand-stitched footballs. About seventy percent of all footballs come from the industrial city of Sialkot. 50,000 men and women work as stitchers in over a thousand workshops to manufacture balls for the world market. Sialkot is the secret capital of the football world.
Here football is not more than what it is - a simple ball, an object without meaning and added value. None of the inexplicable magic that thrills the masses the world over has yet been breathed into it. Here, it is neither cash-cow - or religion, nor surrogate world.
