In France, the project ETHNO was worn by the association Alors, on le fait ?!, financially supported by the European Project Youth in Action, and sustained by the Jeunesses Musicales International and Jeunesses Musicales de France.
ETHNO FRANCE held outside Paris from April 24 to May 9 2010, with a residency at the Conservatory Henri Dutilleux of Clamart, Jam sessions, workshops and many activities for young musicians.
This project has met some thirty young people from 5 countries from all walks of the European Union (Sweden, Estonia, Cyprus, Slovenia and France) who lived together for 15 days in Ile de France, from April 24 to May 9, 2010.
Youths, 18 to 25 years old and from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, have used their meeting to teach each other and by ear traditional folk songs of their culture. Through a combination of workshops, concerts and seminars, they discovered each new music and invented a whole new interpretation of these forms of traditional music. End of stay, they produced the result of these creative meetings in public, demonstrating concretely human exchanges, with more young French musicians and enthusiastic audience from around.
The meeting, around music, universal vector across cultural and linguistic differences, was an intense space of intercultural learning, friendship and exchange.
