When You Realise Your Hands Aren't Real questions whether it is possible to emulate non-physical sensations that remain unseen. Taking inspiration from science fiction, philosophy, and quantum leap theory, such as Metzinger’s The Ego Tunnel and Peter Watt’s Firefall. This series seeks to investigate the effect that occurs when mental sensations become visible through the physicality of the self. The title is an integral part of the work, recording the exact moment when you discover the sensation of your own hands have become a completely alien entity. This series is a collection of visuals to form a looping repetitive video, creating the same disconcerting rhythmic affect through this sequence. Using aesthetics that can be compared to analogue techniques created in the darkroom, exploring these themes through an investigation of the materiality of the digital screen, repetition, and eerie portraiture.
