"The people taking part in this project are refugees- men, women and children- who have requested international protection in Spain from 2008 till 2013. They come from war-torn countries or where the autorities can’t, or don’t want to guarantee their safety.
All of them have lived temporarily in the Refugees Centre in Vallecas(CAR)Madrid. Where I made the pictures
In their portraits they are exactly in the same pose as the famous refugees: Einstein, Chaplin, Gerda Taro...who also had to scape from persecution and they had to find refuge in other countries, in order to start a new life and regain the security that was denied them in their own lands.
The portraits of this anonymous refugees give identity and visibility to people who are only a number in the refugees statistics.
Their words accompanying the portraits give voice to their experiences.
They are people who are obliged to make a constant effort to overcome obstacles, and even though they have not freely chosen to be in Spain, they are slowly bringing the best of their worlds to our own society"
