Today, a lot of archaeological sites are in danger, especially in zones of conflict. We are confronted with reports in the media about the illegal trade in cultural objects being a multi-billion $ business. We are to believe that truckloads of looted objects are entering Europe. We see television reports with undercover journalists in dark basements, being shown a cache of “antiquities” valued at millions of $. Collectors get the blame, the trade is under attack.
