This half-day symposium was held on 9 September 2008 with the theme of “Africa Food Situation: Crisis to Opportunities; New Perspectives for Africa”. The UNU Africa day symposium is an international symposium in celebration of Africa Day that the African Diplomatic Corps in Tokyo (ADC) and United Nations University (UNU) jointly organised.
Building on the success of the UNU Africa Day symposium in Tokyo (for more information on the series please visit our website at http://www.unu.edu/globalization/ ), the 2008 UNU Africa Day Symposium focused on one of the most pressing global issues that the international community is being confronted with. Accordingly, this theme was one of the main agenda items at both the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held earlier this year, and the recently concluded G8 Summit, which was also held in Japan, at lake Toya.
