The Life of a Piece:
I have occasionally seen people’s eyes glaze over when I mention “the components were laser cut” or “I did a CAD drawing to create this.” There is some sort of intractable feeling that a COMPUTER made it rather than a hand. I made this little video to show assembly of one of my new pieces. 1 ½ hours is compressed into 28 seconds. Not pictured: Designing a new piece, making cardboard models, doing a CAD drawing, sourcing/purchasing laminate materials and ripping them into size in a woodshop, laser cutting pieces, tumbling to remove char, gluing all pieces with help of a studio assistant, then assembly (shown). After- have piece professionally photographed, upload to website (another work flow) and social media, create custom box to house piece (another work flow), package piece for shipment to gallery. Wait.
