Aristoleo Awards represent a new prototype for olive oil competitions. Combining the strictest criteria for taste analysis by an IOC accredited panel (Kalamata Olive Oil Tasting Lab) and the accurate measurement of phenolic content by NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Out of 27 samples submitted only 2 were found to have defects. This is contrary to the IOOCs of the world that judge almost half of all EVOOs submitted to be defective... The question arrises and so does a challenge to the organizers of the IOOCs of the world from New York to Tokyo to raise the quality of their judges and tighten up their procedures if they truly desire to discover the best olive oils in the world. Besides how can you expect to raise the confidence of the consumers when these internatonal competitions deem almost half of the olive oils submitted as having defects? If half of the best of the best olive oils in the world have defects then what does that say about the olive oils on the supermarket shelves? The organizers of the IOOCs are doing great damage to the olive oil inducstry with their rushed and hurried manner by which they judge the EVOOS..How valid are their results when one IOOC rejects the olive oil as defective and another IOOC gives the same olive oil a gold medal?
