Recording of Dr. Roo Vandegrift's talk at the Cascade Mycological Society, in Eugene, Oregon, on 22 June 2016. This is Part 2, which covers some other interesting fungal diversity related to Xylaria.
Dr. Vandegrift is a mycologist studying the strange and beautiful Xylaria fungi of Ecuador. He has recently embarked on a little experiment to see if the art can support science; this is in response to a developing crisis in funding for basic science. Basically, Dr. Vandegrift is trying to use crowdfund to save the basic science of taxonomy, based on the beauty of the illustrations/photographs.
