Local students investigate the Gowanus Canal, doing field research to understand why the canal is so polluted, and what we can all do to improve water quality. In this video Ssudents from MS 51, MS 88, MS 839, PS 32 and Brooklyn Urban Garden School brought their experiments and models to EXPO Gowanus, a community environmental activism event. They talked to members of the community about our shared role as stewards for the Gowanus Canal.
We work with Brooklyn teachers to incorporate Gowanus field studies, urban ecology and design projects using our free STEM Gowanus curriculum. We would like to expand our partnerships with schools in the Gowanus Watershed. Contact Christine Petro, GCC Education Director if your school is interested in working with us: christine@gowanuscanalconservancy.org.
Thanks to DecadesOut for producing the EXPO Gowanus video!
