ABOUT THE WATERMILL SUMMER
The Laboratory for Performance – Watermill Center is considered by some as one of the most ambitious works of art by Robert Wilson: it’s there that every year he gathers almost a hundred young artists from all over the world, whom he then directs, or “stages”, during the 50 days of the Watermill Summer Program. This summer laboratory is thus a never-ending work in progress, in constant evolution and transformation, year after year. And a breeding ground for most of the actual projects by the American genius.
ABOUT THE FILM
For the very first time in 2014, Robert Wilson has authorised a cinematographic crew – the young Czech cineastes Jakub Jahn and David Markovič – to film the exceptional creative ferment of the Summer Program. The only condition was that they were not mere observers, but also active participants, fully immerged in the artistic effervescence and integrated in the everyday life of the Watermill community. The hundreds of hours of raw footage, including interviews with Robert Wilson, the invited artists and various participants, testimonies from rehearsals and images from the very heart of the amazing artistic environment – the excrescence of Robert Wilson’s brain in the world – will mutually inform each other to give birth to a unique document on the relentless creative flurry, underlying all Robert Wilson’s works.
A tribute and an ideal sounding board to the immense opus magnum of Bob Wilson.
