'Lizzie's Story’ is an animated film, hand-drawn around a central character, Lizzie. Artist and Animator, Kate Sweeney and Theatre Practitioner Clara Shield worked directly with women from the SECOS project in Middlesbrough to explore issues to do with prostitution and devise and perform scenes from Lizzie's life that relate directly to their own life experiences. The workshops were filmed and the resulting footage was animated and edited into this harrowing, beautiful and frank film.
SECOS is a recovery project, based in Middlesborogh. A town in the north of England. It works to empower women and men involved in prostitution. SECOS believe that involvement in prostitution is a survival strategy rather than a profession. It recognises the impact of current and previous abuse and issues such as homelessness and drug use that may also have some bearing on people's involvement in prostitution.
