Our project’s name comes from Rachel Carson, whose writings helped inspire the modern environmental movement. In an essay that encouraged parents to take their children out to experience the natural world, she wrote:
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder…he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.”
Our programs bring children and adults to the wild places that still exist in urban San Diego to inspire in them that sense of wonder.
