STORY HALF TOLD
BETH: So, my name is Beth Fairchild and two years ago I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Um, I was pretty much in the prime of my life, I was in the gym five days a week, and an 85% clean diet, um my career was taking off. My marriage was wonderful, um I had a daughter who was 14 at the time and had just adopted a second child and um, it was um, a shock to say the least.
BETH: I went in for a hysterectomy and um the pathology came back as breast cancer cells.
BETH: I was told that while they could treat me and keep me alive for a short while, that my diagnosis was a terminal one and that I would eventually die from this disease.
BETH: The only thing at the time that I withheld from my daughters was that timeline.
BETH: So I found an organization um of women who are like me …and it’s women who are living with metastatic breast cancer, um 40 and younger, and we have a lot of the same issues.
BETH: And through that I found hope. Because there are women who had been living with this disease for 3, 5 10 years . And that was my first, um, my first real spot of hope ...
BETH: To me, staying positive was a quality of life issue. Is it going to help me live longer? Probably not. But am I going to have however long I have left happy and, and bright? Absolutely.
BETH: So through programs like, Story Half Told, we're able to share our stories and tell people this is what it's like living with metastatic disease and [lend] the patient perspective this is what I do and this is how it's affected me and this is how it's affected my family.
BETH: So for me choosing to remain positive and help other people get to that point is so important.
BETH: It’s just been an amazing 2 years.
