Not just anyone can employ humour in a dread topic. (Not so easy, china). Leave it to a raconteur like Mfundo Mkhize, and you get a polished piece that conveys the serious message without weighing the viewer down.
The task? To de-stigmatise HIV and inform people that it is not the end of the world; your life can go on pretty-much as normal. The clever story penned by the creative team from Joe Public, involved a flurry of people rushing in and changing everything in the scene, after a man is told he's HIV-positive.
The shtick? Everything ends up exactly the same as it was before; nothing's changed. Technique-wise, Mfundo cleverly orchestrated the background scene changes and the doubles, never letting the visual devices get in the way of his effortless storytelling style.
Distinctly South African? Mfundo's specialty.
