For my poetry final In April, I created what I called the #BlackFormalistMixtape. Combining each poem I wrote about Black History/police brutality with a song, I also created a visual component and included figures, like Malcolm X, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Melissa Harris-Perry, and archived footage of the Black Panther Party. I wanted to share my video because when I watched it again, I keep thinking of #AltonSterling and #PhilandoCastile and how this cycle repeats itself. Civil Rights Speeches heard in the 60's could have been said yesterday and unfortunately, they might have to be repeated tomorrow. This video was more of an art therapy project than anything else.
