Awkward moments surround us all. Whether we’re deciding if we should go left or right around someone and thus creating an impromptu dance or trying to use an umbrella on a windy day. We’ve all had uncomfortable moments at one point in our existence. I love to savor in these instances whether they occur to my friends or myself. It’s real life.
My character is secluded and cut off from the rest of the world, which magnifies his awkwardness. Every second that he is alive is a confusing moment and the way he chooses to solve the situations is what makes him strange and bizarre. He doesn’t understand how society works and must learn to survive.
The animations have been completed through a process called rotoscoping. This technique has been around for centuries. The idea helped animation become what it is today. I have been able to apply my own textures and style to my rotoscoping, making it more graphic. I use bold shapes and brilliant colors to help shape my characters in a seemingly three-dimensional space. The clashing of the bold colors and textures create the perfect atmosphere for awkward moments.
