My mom died 30 years ago and I still miss her. Things have changed a lot in Mundelein, IL, but unfortunately metastatic breast cancer outcomes really haven't. Mom was diagnosed with metastatic inflammatory breast cancer at age 51 and she died at age 53. I was diagnosed at age 43 with a small amount of bone mets which have since spread. I am not a carrier of the the BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 mutations. Many people don't understand that it is not the lump that kills--breast cancer is lethal when it is metastatic--meaning it has spread to a distant site (generally bone, liver, lung, brain or some combo there in). See http://www.MBCN.org for more information.
