The 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale featured 61 national pavilions. These pavilions were curated by Alejandro Aravena under the theme of Reporting from the Front. ArchDaily and PLANE—SITE collaborated for an exclusive video series composed of visits to some of the pavilions to gather insights from their curators.
Pierre Belanger’s (Harvard University Graduate School of Design) ‘counter-pavilion’ shines a light on Canadian extraction of materials from other nations and territories and the challenges this poses to architecture and construction around the world. “Extraction” features a historical film experience only viewable by a single person at a time, forcing visitors to face the troubled history of Canadian geopolitics.
