Just a quick rendering test with my home made procedure for render particles with multi passes (like krakatoa for max) but for maya and 3delight.
There are 3million particles rendered in 5sec per frame for 2k with motion blur.
Of course, i think you can increase the particles number to more than 20 millions.
The next step : 20-30 millions and a demonstration of my tools.
