Blank as Music is a collaborative exploration between Ana Ramos and Alex Braidwood that explores the "musical" potential of common objects within an instructions-based composition and performance system.
Performers were invited to first select an object of their choosing from the available options. For the first experiment, the objects for investigation are pen, sunglasses and toothpaste. Once selected, the performers chose, at random, a card to determine what action is to be performed with the selected objected in an attempt to make "music." Actions range from banging and rubbing to squeezing and "freestyle." Once the system begins, the performers' actions are prompted for two minutes and forty two seconds by projecting, step by step, a visual score that is the result of a contrandom algorithm composed by Alex Braidwood for use within the performance control display system. The performers attempt to respond directly and in real time to the queues displayed by the system.
