Video was taken with a Jazz Elite 178 HDV camcorder available at Walmart for $100. It is set to the default for normal daylight setting. Plane is a N2 (No Name) designed by Lmopar69 from RCgroups. Time is 20 minutes after sunset but you can see there is still some light in the west and the moon is rising in the east.
Red and green glowire is attached to the top and bottom of the wing with hot glue. Power is supplied to the glowire via two 500 mah 2s lipos connected in series for 14.8 volts. Walmart finger lights ($2 each) and Walmart wedding lights (small LEDs that go in a balloon) are used to supplement the glowire. Front lights are simply a 3 LED "hat light" that is clipped to a piece of plywood glued to the nose of the plane rather than clipped to the bill of cap. For $8-12 these are a quick and easy way to provide forward lighting on an RC plane.
Night flying with lights is better when it gets completely dark. During the twilight it's harder to keep orientation but this video is better. With complete darkness the flying can be more agressive but the video is marginal.
BE PATIENT FOR the close in shots to get a feel for the visibility of the plane. Video does NOT capture how easy it is to see the plane at night.
Flying field is Flying Pilgrims RC club in southeastern Michigan.
