The 1st July 2016 marked the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. Just like the red poppy in the UK, in France the symbol of memory and solidarity is the cornflower or Bleuet de France. The UK and French governments held a special service at the Thiepval Memorial.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Royal British Legion released thousands of Bleuet flowers and red poppies. A mark of respect to the soldiers from both the UK and France who fought so bravely for their countries. We will remember them.
