"A French American documentary of dance and ideas"
AMERICAN REALNESS for dance 2016 follows the AMERICAN REALNESS tour to 3 cities in France and explores what it means (or doesn't mean) to place an American frame around a group of artists. Artists and presenters discuss gender, race and identity as represented in the contemporary performance landscape in both countries.
Interviews with Dana Michel, Ligia Lewis, keyon gaskin and Miguel Gutierrez as well as Aymar Crosnier (CND), Cathy Bouvard (Les Subsistances), Stéphane Boitel (Théâtre Garonne) and AMERICAN REALNESS founder Ben Pryor.
American Realness for dance2016 is a partnership between tbspMGMT and Centre national de la danse (Pantin), Les Subsistances (Lyon) and Théâtre Garonne (Toulouse), made possible with support from FUSED: French-US Exchange in Dance, a program of the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, and FACE Foundation, with funding from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Florence Gould Foundation. Additional support provided by The Andrew W.
