"Sex and Power: Abortion and contraception policy in Texas," by Amanda Jean Stevenson
Texas has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation and its publicly subsidized contraception has been highly politicized for years. We can measure the demographic impacts of these policies - as well as the formation of social movements supporting or opposing them - through a combination of demographic methods, machine learning, social network analysis and social theory.
Amanda Jean Stevenson is a sociologist and demographer at The University of Texas at Austin, where she is within spitting distance of a PhD. She will be an assistant professor of sociology at University of Colorado Boulder next year.
