Master Penman Michael Sull

There are only 13 certified Master Penmen in the world and one of them, Master Penman Michael R. Sull, is in Manila as part of his Asia visit. To be awarded the title Master Penman, one is inducted by a guild for his or her achievements in penmanship and the calligraphic arts. Not only does MP Michael R. Sull have this title, but he is the foremost living Spencerian penman and one of the last living connections to the Golden Age of American Penmanship.

During MP Sull's visit to Manila, he held a short lecture about the ancient calligraphic arts as well as showcasing vintage specimens from his personal collection. They include the writings of great penmen like Luis Madarasz, Austin Palmer and C.P. Zaner, to name a few. It was followed by workshops on Off-Hand Flourishing and a 2-day Spencerian Penmanship Bootcamp where MP Sull takes the students through a journey from the fundamental strokes to how to compose this beautiful script.
