Probably trying this bit of slight of hand would be easier in a side on or three quarter view- very difficult synchronising the bits doing them one bit after the other.

Hour spent taking and retaking...and deleting - a bit like trying to follow someones dance or aerobics moves- you realise the extent of your coordination.

I think the best use of character animator might be making motion sketches/lip synch sketches that you use as reference for a properly rigged character in After effects.
