Marching down Market Street, celebrating a championship basketball season, exploring the outdoors and sharing cultural experiences in Japan, Konko Church Boy Scout Troop 58 became an iconic participant in San Francisco’s historic Japantown. Founded in 1939, Troop 58 became a beacon for its neighborhood’s Japanese families after their exile and imprisonment by the U.S. government during World War II. Celebrating the Troop’s 70th anniversary, scouts and leaders share stories that vividly bring to life the times, good and bad, that shaped the Troop, its members and its neighborhood.
