Ravi Ragbir is an immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago who has lived in the U.S. for over 20 years, 14 of which he had been a legal resident. In 1999, Ragbir was accused of fraud by the company he worked for and was found guilty in a jury trial. He claims he was wrongly convicted. After he served three years in Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, he spent two years in immigration detention in New Jersey and Alabama. Ragbir was released in 2008 under a surveillance program aimed at freeing up beds in congested prisons. Ragbir is still in deportation proceedings without an end in sight.
