This is Sastra dasi. Sastri dasi is a mother of 2 children and works part time, and does service in her local temple. She has read most of Srila Prabhupada’s books and always wanted to study them systematically and get VTE Bhakti Sastri diploma. However, due to her many obligations she cannot afford to take 3 or 4 months off to attend a residential Bhakti Sastri course. She has heard about Bhaktivedanta College’s Online Bhakti Sastri program and is enthusiastic to participate. Like many people who have not studied online, she is just now exploring the application procedures, e-learning tools and unique facilities that this online education offers. Let’s join her in her new service of studying sastra online.
To get an idea what this course is about, Sastra dasi first wants to check out the 12 aims open module. All she has to do is create a new account by supplying a username, password and some personal information. Now she can login and learn all about VTE Methodology of studying Srila Prabhupada’s books, by watching a video presentation, reading the materials, and attempting a quiz about the newly learned information. Sastra dasi is also requested to update her profile, so that other students can get to know her and get in contact with her.
Sastra dasi decides to apply for the Bhakti Sastri course. She thus fills in and submits the application form and requests her temple president to email a recommendation letter to the course administrators at Bhaktivedanta College. After being accepted into the program receiving email, she pays for the first course that is being offered through pay pal or bank contact. She then received an enrollment key which allows her access to the first course. Prior to the beginning of the course, Sastra dasi has access to general information about the course, requirements, syllabus, VTE student books, and assignment questions. Once the course starts, she reads the assigned sections, and actively takes part in forum discussions. She also takes quizzes and does additional exercises which will help her assimilating the materials.
Once a week she attends a 1 hour conference call or live-chat, and thus interacts further with her teacher and co-students, clarifying relevant questions and discussing important topics related to this week’s studies.
In addition to the weekly homeworks, Sastra dasi also works on her essay assignments throughout the 10 weeks. She does this by using our Online platform. Access her account by clicking on her name, then clicks ‘blog’, and starts drafting her first essay. She can adjust the settings in a way that her work is visible only to herself. Towards the end of the course, she requests one of her local ISKCON authorities to sit the exam with her. We then send him/her the exam questions, and within a limited amount of time, Sastra dasi successfully completes her first course for her Bhakti Sastri diploma.
