Every four years, the world seemingly pauses in order to enjoy the very best display of athleticism on the planet. This year, all eyes are on Rio, where thousands of the best athletes compete for an opportunity to leave their mark on Olympic history. Although millions share in the spectacle of the games from the comfort of our homes, very few have an opportunity to experience the games from an athletes perspective.
To better understand this most rarified of athletic experiences, we reached out to two-time U.S. Olympic Gymast, Danell Leyva. Danell, a Cuban-born athlete, won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic games and is representing the USA once again at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
