In the fall of 2010, in a San Francisco gallery, I constructed a healing space which fused therapeutic massage, interactive video and a shared out-of-body camera perspective. Over a 2 day period, I conducted 37 sessions in this space, and in the process, came to some conclusions about what I would do next. After the exhibit, I set out to build a scale model of the space for the purpose of research, development and experimentation. Here's a slideshow of the project's initial phase. The images show the construction of the space, the assembly of the automated curtains, and the evolution of the color tracking and video projections. For the brains, I used an Arduino micro controller and the Processing programming language. In the final version, a camera connected to a MacBookPro tracks the red tape on my finger as I wave my finger over a miniature massage table. An Optima Pico projector then projects an image onto the massage table, effectively following my movement with an image.
