With the boom of the Angolan economy, Luanda has become a major destination for migrants, most of whom end up living in luxurious condominiums. The Ilha de Luanda, a beach-lined peninsula, is the place where the city's residents go to drown out the stresses of daily life. But with the relentless regeneration of the city and the logic of gated developments, Luanda’s pleasure resort risks becoming yet another gilded cage.
