On September 19, 2010 the inaugural Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant was held. It was a year in the making and was a huge sucess. The weather was perfect for the third week in September, and the sunlight was spectacular.
We were there to capture the pre-preparations as well as registration and the pasta dinner the night before. The day started at 6am to capture the setup and last minute preps. Although I prefer sleeping in on a Saturday, it was nice to watch the sunrise!
This was a single camera shoot. My only regret is that I didn't have another two shooters. There were so many stories to be told. I had the steadicam with me most of the day to keep up with the runners. I have a greater respect for the Kenyan's who after running 20 miles still left me in the dust trying to get a steady shot while running with them.
Sure, they ran it just under 2 1/2 hours, but it was the achievements by many who put this event on their bucket list and succeeded. The emotions were high and the crowd was more than supportive.
