Bulgaria may be the least visited country in the EU zone. Located in the eastern Balkan, Bulgaria was once the cradle of Slavic culture in the medieval time and has been ruled by Ottoman Empire for about 5 centuries till late 19th Century. After WWII it became a socialist republic as a member of the Soviet Eastern Bloc. In 1989, due to the collapse of Eastern Bloc, the Communist Party allowed multi-party elections, which transformed Bulgaria into a democratic republic and a market-based economy but the member of ex-communist parties still controlled the government after then. However, Bulgaria's government is considered one of Europe's most corrupted and inefficient one.
