Newcastle Emerging Artists Prize (NEAP) 2016

The Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize (NEAP) was established by the foundation committee members of Newcastle Art Space in 2001.The annual prize was established to encourage and support emerging artists in the Newcastle region.

The term “emerging artist” is often used for young and recently graduated from a tertiary institution/art school, but it can also apply to someone who has made a career change or recently decided to prioritize their art above everything else.

Emerging artists, for this event, are considered to be those who:

* have not had a solo exhibition in a commercial or major public gallery

* have completed a minimum of 3 years of art practice at the closing date of NEAP application period.

* do not hold or have not held a formal contract with any commercial gallery that offered professional representation.

Judges this year were Wendy Sharpe, Dani Marti and Ahn Wells.
