Six years after the war, a weak health system simply cannot cope with constant emergencies. As the referendum on 9th January approaches, the South is battling to contain its biggest outbreak of kala azar in eight years – a fatal disease, if untreated. Malnutrition is chronic, violence continues to destroy lives and preventable diseases are constant killers.
