In August of 2010 I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to shoot several fights of a San Diego based MMA competition called Epic Fighting. I decided to shoot the entire event in slow mo, or overcranked. When I returned home and looked at the footage I was impressed not only by the "epic" imagery, but also by how brutal the sport looked in slow mo. What's interesting is that during the event, in real time, I did not feel that way at all. It was entertaining and the competitors were great sportsmen. But in slow mo the true nature of the sport is enhanced... thus "Brutalis".
