Ongoing research and experimentation from my DataWalking project. Photos taken across Amsterdam are analysed and then using an algorithm mapped to re-create Amsterdam as a three-dimensional colour volume. This video (shrunk from the full size video) shows travelling from the North of Amsterdam to the South, West on your left and east on the right. A flurry of colour points, each one marking in space where the photo was taken, the colours represent prominent colours in that location.
Data Walking is a research project examining data gathering using sensors while walking, and experimental data visualisation. This video lacks characteristic key/legend or any annotation and context to decipher much meaning as you would expect from a piece of information design. Nevertheless it is visualising data, but perhaps leans towards communicating the character of a city rather than exact numbers or facts. This is one of the many processes and outputs being explored in the Data Walking project.
