Video footage of "They Will Surf Again" event held on Sept. 20th, 2008 at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida. This is a no-cost program sponsored by The Life Rolls On Foundation.
Life Rolls On is a non-profit 501(c)3 Foundation that exists to be a grassroots resource that provides hope and is an advocate on behalf of young people whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury (SCI).
Injured athletes from all over the state of Florida participated in the surfing event held on Saturday, September 20th, 2008 at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Ten injured athletes were assisted by approximately 80 volunteers as they ventured out into the ocean to try surfing. Some of the individuals had surfed prior to their injuries, some had participated in previous LRO events, and several had never surfed a day in their life.
Many of the participants are quadriplegics as the result of an accident resulting in injury to their spinal cord. Several of the participants are amputees, and several have Cerbral Palsy (CP).
It was a beautiful day and the waves were 2-3 foot plus. Keep in mind that all of the disabled athletes lay flat on the adaptive surfboards thus, a 3 foot wave can be rather intimidating, and is definitely "overhead".
Thank you to all the LRO participants and volunteers.
Thanks to the Christian Surfers Organization for the snacks, beverages, and great volunteers.
Thanks to the City of Cocoa Beach for providing
lifeguards, and a special thanks to Wyatt Werneth.
Thanks to all the volunteers from the 16streets and 2ndlight.com forums.

I would like to thank each of the LRO participants for sharing your stories and comments with me, I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to have met each of you.
In closing, I have been involved with many volunteer projects and causes over the past 31 years. I can honestly say that this event was the most rewarding volunteer work I have ever done to this day!
I encourage each of you to consider volunteering your time and expertise during the next LRO event.
We are in need of beach wheel chairs as seen in this film, as well as soft-top surfboards with handles. If you can be of help in this effort please send me a message, or contact Kris S. Nakamura Executive Director/CEO @ Life Rolls On Foundation
