Public Information Night - Carmarthen 17/10/14

Raw expressive footage from our final Public Information live event at the basement of Carmarthen Library on Oct 17 2014.

This video was created and edited by Peter Finnemore as a extension to the series of Public Information Nights events that was curated by Craig Wood and Peter Finnemore and commissioned by Oriel Myrddin Gallery to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas.

The starting point of these ideas were gathered around ideas of Thomas’ wartime propaganda scripts for the Ministry of Public Information. These related to the building of a post war consensus of equality within affordable housing, work, health, welfare and nationalized industrial and public utilities. Communal values that have been eroded over a 35 year period and accelerated as a political and financial land grab since the banking crisis of 2008. To bring these current and pressing issues to the fore we created a public and communal forum where the arts become visible cultural barricade through the form of a series of Public Information Nights .

These series of Videos are expressive documents that are in keeping with the events. The soundtrack is a live mix created on the performance night in Volcano Theatre, Swansea by Canolfan Hamdden, a supergroup consisting of a durational performance sound art collective comprising of Gwenno, Rhys Edwards, Haydon Hughes and Patricia Morgan of Datblygu. A 13-track cassette tape (Canofan Hamdden – Cyffro ar Ddechrau Canrif) was produced by Peski Records and forms the sonic anchor from which I’ve overlaid related visual footage.

Public Information Nights included, Volcano Theatre, Swansea in Dec 7th. 2013 and 17th Oct 2014 at the Basement Gallery at Carmarthen Library. A 24 live web broadcast was undertaken from Dylan Thomas’ writing shed in Laugharne on Sept 26th 2014 . The exhibition titled Public Information was held at Oriel Myrddin in Sept / Oct. 2014
