A year at the Cat Survival Trust, and 2010 was quite a year! The birth of some endangered snow leopard cubs was the highlight for me, though tragically only one has survived, as is so often the case with large cats, especially if they are born out of season.
The birth of the cubs coincided with the tragic death of a friend, Nina Way, and the director of the trust, Doctor Terry Moore, agreed to name one of the cubs in Nina's memory. Friends and family who knew Nina have subsequently had a little furry person to visit and meet, and experience her feisty but friendly personality.
The Cat Survival Trust is a registered charity founded in 1976, and has one of the most successful snow leopard breeding programs in Europe.
Snow Leopards are classified as endangered by the IUCN, so breeding in captivity plays a vital role to ensure a clean and healthy gene pool of the species.
