He started out in the 70s, working the door at Max's Kansas City and Danceteria. The Beastie Boys wrote a song about him. Now in his sixties, he's still at it, DJing and booking bands.
DJ MOJO: MUSIC IS LIFE is an informal snapshot of New York DJ and rock show promoter Mojo as he goes about his business while reminiscing about the golden age of New York nightlife in the 70s and 80s and offering his perspective on the present and future of the city.
Candid and opinionated, he also gives voice to the rarely-discussed experience of being older and black in a scene that is predominantly young and white.
Mojo is not without his flaws—as he would be the first to admit—but he has found his own inner peace doing what he loves. And in this sense he perhaps serves as an example for us all.
