This is the first of a series of time-lapse videos that show the painting of the mural for the Mission Neighborhood Health Center in San Francisco. The Right to Good Health mural is funded by the Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health (Grant 1R13MD005792-01). Mariana Ferreira, an anthropologist teaching at San Francisco State University and muralists Eduardo Pineda and Joaquin Newman organized the project as part of the annual Human Rights Conference at SFSU. Ferreira’s anthropology students conducted community-based participatory research to identify the significant health issues that are the foundation for the mural’s theme. In this short, Pineda and Newman begin by priming the canvas for the mural, projecting the design, and outlining the drawing with color in preparation to paint.
