This video presents documentation of the Conversation session “Future of Design Education” held at the Design Research Society 2016 (drs2016.org) conference held on June 29th, 2016 in Brighton, UK.
The conversation session was developed and facilitated by Sapna Singh and Liz Sanders. Sapna Singh is a lecturer in the Department of Design at OSU. She graduated in May 2016 from the MFA in Design Research and Development program at OSU and her MFA thesis was focused on exploring the “Future and Value of Graduate Design Education”. Liz Sanders is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at the Ohio State University (OSU).
The methodology of participatory design research using a generative design make toolkit (Sanders & Stappers, 2012) was chosen to facilitate the conversation and provide participants with tools to visualize and communicate their ideas for the future of design education. Catalysts for the session presented four future scenarios. The catalysts were Liz Sanders, Sapna Singh, Terry Irwin, Pieter Jan Stappers, Nicole Lotz and Erik Bohemia. Details about the catalysts and the conversation session can be accessed at: drs2016.org/564 .
The video presents the four future scenarios, images from the workshop, the posters created by the participants and ideas presented for the future of design education.
