Day, Me Rongo: Walk in Rainbows is the second part of the work, Night and Day by Lonnie Hutchinson and Reuben Paterson.
Hutchinson’s Night/ I Love You will be familiar to many declaring its message of unconditional love in huge neon letters.
Public art has transformed the stairwells of the Ronwood Ave Carpark, Manukau, into places of fun and bright colour. Walk in Rainbows was officially opened 11 August, 2016, after 4 years in the making. It is a curtain of prisms created by Reuben Paterson and Walter Foott that casts rainbows on the concrete using art to add a bit of wonder to the urban landscape. Lonnie Hutchinson's Night Component, I Love You, declares the message in giant rainbow neon on stairwell 2, and declares Aroha Atu, Aroha Mai (to give and receive love) on stairwell 1.
