Youssef Alaoui reads part of his short story "When the Phone Rang" in Berkeley, CA. The story will appear in his new collection, to be published at the end of 2016 by Nomadic Press of Fruitvale, Oakland and Brooklyn, NYC. The story is about a prisoner kept in solitary confinement in an unnamed prison in the lapse between two unnamed wars, for an incalculable amount of time. He is only left with his mind and the support network in his mind, that has kept him alive so far, is eroding. Somehow, at the same time, he learns about humanity.
